Most of us, when met with a sign that warns, “Beware of dog,” are wise enough to avoid the barking, slobbering beast. Paul gave the church of Philippi and us a strong warning concerning spiritual dogs- individuals who attempt to scare us into believing in something other than Jesus Christ. Without a sign hanging around their necks, how can we recognize them? How can we stand firm despite the attack? Heather Flies answers these questions and more on Sunday night at 6 p.m.!

Join us this Sunday to hear from Shawn Winters about honoring those who serve God!

Each of us has been blessed by a long line of people. Some we knew well, others we only knew from a distance. The apostle Paul writes about a man named Epaphroditus in Philippians 2:25-30. Epaphroditus is a hero of the faith in Paul’s estimation. He is someone who has served God consistently and self sacrificially. Paul therefore challenges the believers to honor him and others like him who serve God and bless lives.

Join us this Sunday to hear more from Shawn Winters about honoring those who serve God!

Shawn Winters speaks about encouraging others to deeper faith in Christ.

Mentors are people who take time to build into someone else for their own good. We may have mentors in life, in work or in faith. Paul draws our attention to a young man he mentored named Timothy. In Philippians 2:19-24 Paul introduces Timothy to the church, though they know him well already. He speaks of Timothy’s character and faith and singular focus on Jesus. He recommends Timothy to them because Paul himself has been so blessed though this friendship and partnership. Paul has been mentoring Timothy, now he is sending him to mentor others.

In our faith journeys with Jesus Christ, we benefit through those who mentor us, and by stepping out and mentoring someone else. We benefit through friendships based on faith in Jesus. The challenge is to foster those Christian friendships.

Join us this Sunday to hear more from Shawn Winters about encouraging others to deeper faith in Christ.

Shawn Winters speaks about shining light in the darkness

Paul issues a clear call for the Philippian believers to live in unity with one another. He addresses behaviors that not only hurt people, but also compromise the mission of the church. Paul has set an example of humility and modeled submission to God above personal ambition or comfort. Now he challenges the believers to do the same. If they will live this way, the light of Christ that is already in them will shine forth. Others will see it, and God will be glorified. Though he is unable to visit them, Paul calls them to be Christian Stars in Philippi.

Join us this Sunday to hear more from Shawn Winters on the book of Philippians!

We continue our Philippians series as Shawn Winters speaks about living according to God's plan.

“How are you saved?” is the question at the core of our faith. We may wonder at the role played by God, the death of Jesus, and our own effort. Philippians 2:12 is one that has caused some confusion and controversy. The issue at stake is how are we saved? This verse seems to say that it is by our effort, with fear and trembling! However, elsewhere Paul writes clearly that we are saved by grace alone (Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5-6). So which is it? Salvation is through faith in Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross alone and not by earning it with good works! Philippians 2:12-13 is written to believers and sounds a winsome call to live for God and by God’s power. Paul reminds us of the awesome privilege of living according to God’s plan.

Join us this Sunday to hear more from Shawn Winters on living according to God’s plan!

Geoff Bohleen speaks about God's deep love for us despite our sinful nature

As Jesus approached Jerusalem and his cross he spoke of drinking from the cup. The cup is a metaphor for God’s wrath against human evil, and Jesus willingly drank from this terrible cup because he loves us and wants to protect us. It is only when we understand the horror of our sin and its punishment that we can understand how much Jesus loves us. Then we can follow his loving example when faced with the pain and difficulty that is often a part of loving God and others.

Geoff Bohleen speaks about looking out for the needs and interests of others above our own

The most natural thing in the world is to look out for our own interests. It is instinctive, it is common, and it at times brings us some rewards. However, there is an ever better, counter-intuitive way to live! Paul encourages us to look out for the interests of others as well as our own. In fact, if we want to live like Jesus we will look out almost exclusively for the needs and interests of others. How can we live such a different kind of life? What is the impact of such a life? Well, we start by looking at the life of Jesus.

Join us on Sunday to hear more from Geoff Bohleen on “there you are” living!
